Inner healing prayer refers to God’s freeing us from deep emotional wounds that cause our suffering. We refer to these as heart wounds.
Due to living in a fallen world, we all experience suffering, sin, and illness that needs healing. Also, other people inflict hurts that cause woundedness, and we hurt and injure ourselves. Today, many people remain weighed down by burdens that need to be released to the Lord. Consequently, they do not enjoy the freedom the Lord desires for them.
God’s heart is for the healing of all his children. Jesus declared in His first sermon, recorded in Luke 4:18–19, He was carrying out His Father’s plan to set people free and heal the brokenhearted. Unfortunately, many people hide their pain, not understanding exposing their wounds is the beginning of their healing. Freedom occurs when our hurts are brought to the light for Jesus to heal.
Inner healing prayer is a ministry of compassion. Each prayer session is unique, as the Lord heals emotional wounds and restores hearts. The Lord speaks to His children in a way they will understand as long as they are willing to receive what He has to share. Each healing was different and unique in the Bible—the Lord did not use a specific formula. The Lord will meet prayer recipients wherever they are.
At the beginning of the prayer session, the prayer ministers ask the Holy Spirit to be in charge. They listen for His direction throughout the prayer time. Together with His help, the prayer ministers and the prayer recipient identify negative ancestral patterns and unhealthy relationships. The recipient asks the Holy Spirit to bring to mind people they need to forgive who influenced them to partner with these unhealthy influences. They renounce the negative influences and declare they break their power over their lives, their families, and their descendants in Jesus’s name. Thus, the negative influence is removed from their family line.
The prayer recipient requests and receives blessings from the Holy Spirit in place of these negative patterns. For example, in the place of anger, the Holy Spirit may fill them with His peace. Together with the Holy Spirit, they identify lies the person has believed. The person renounces the lies, asking the Lord for His truth. The Lord heals their heart by meeting them in a memory, a real or imagined safe place, or in the prayer room.
The good news is the Lord is waiting and desiring to heal our pain and the wounded areas of our hearts. When we offer him our hurts, he heals in exchange. Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” We only need to ask.
We believe inner healing prayer is the most effective way to receive divine restoration and freedom.
